Seeding
ByToday was a stressful day, mainly because Dillon and Little Shirt went for slaughter. We new this day would come but it not easy to take an animal to be killed especially one that has been hand reared , however we would rather eat meat from an animal that has at least been well cared for. We had always assumed that the pigs would be unsettled when they went to the slaughter house and sense that something unpleasant was going to happen, however this was not the case , they trotted off to their pen and seemed quite unaware what was going to happen. While it was not a laugh a minute experience it was not as bad as was expected. They weighed in at 62 and 68 kg. The carcasses will now go to the butcher who will prepare them. We will wait for his report on what grade the meat will be.
On a lighter note , we sowed our sunflowers today – the land belongs to a local farmer who kindly has allowed us to use a small piece. The ploughing was not the best I seen but we managed to get the seed in so we now will hope for some rain.
We ran out of hay yesterday so we are hoping to collect some this weekend as we have precious little grass.
